Note: This is not an auction catalogue, but rather an independent (and quite extravagant) publication to promote the sale of one painting (executed in 1961) at an upcoming sale on 12 November 2008 at Rockefeller Center. Well illustrated, with many colour plates and a fairly substantial essay. The Argentine-Italian artist Lucio Fontana (1899-1968) was one of the most important figures of the post-war neo-avant-garde. An abstract artist, he was a signatory of a manifesto of Spazialismo, proclaimed in Milan in 1947. Notoriously, he began slashing the surfaces of his canvases in 1958, in a creative/destructive gesture. Price: 79.95 USD
