A major retrospective of one of the members of the "Ashcan School," John Sloan, a painter, printmaker and illustrator usually identified as a Social Realist. A student of Robert Henri, Sloan worked as an illustrator for the Philadelphia press before moving to Greenwich Village. Well illustrated, with many colour plates; scenes of downtown New York at the turn of the last century, figures, portraits, genre scenes.
