2 Hafiz; Ladinsky, Daniel James (Translated by)
The Gift: Poems by the Great Sufi Master
New York Penguin Books 1999 0140195815 / 9780140195811 25th printing Trade Paperback Very Good
xvi, 333 pp.; 21 cm. Firm binding, gently creased spine. Clean inside copy. "More than any other Persian poet, it is perhaps Hafiz who accesses the mystical, healing dimensions of poetry. With this collection of 250 of Hafiz's most intimate poems, translator Ladinsky has succeeded in capturing the essence of one of Islam's greatest poetic and religious voices. Each line imparts the qualities of this spiritual teacher: an audacious love that empowers lives, profound knowledge, wild generosity, and a sweet, playful genius unparalleled in world literature. / Daniel Ladinsky is an acclaimed translator of mystical poetry. For six years, he made his home in a spiritual community in western India, where he worked and lived with the intimate disciples and family of Avatar Meher Baba. This is his fourth volume of Hafiz poetry in translation." - Publisher.
